چکیده

This paper presents novel contributions on image-based control of a mobile robot using a general catadioptric camera model. A catadioptric camera is usually made up by a combination of a conventional camera and a curved mirror resulting on an omnidirectional sensor capable of providing 360o panoramic views of a scene. Modeling such cameras has been subject of significant research interest in the computer vision community leading to a deeper understanding of the image properties and also to different models for different types of configurations. Visual servoing applications using catadioptric cameras have essentially been using central cameras and the corresponding unified projection model. So far only in a few cases more general models have been used. In this paper we address the problem of visual servoing using so-called radial model. The radial model can be applied to many camera configurations and in particular to non-central catadioptric systems with mirrors that are symmetric around an axis coinciding with the optical axis. In this case, we show that the radial model can be used with a non-central catadioptric camera to allow effective image-based visual servoing (IBVS) of a mobile robot. Using this model, which is valid for a large set of catadioptric cameras (central or non-central), new visual features are proposed to control the degrees of freedom of a mobile robot moving on a plane. In addition to several simulation results, a set of experiments was carried out on Robot Operating System (ROS)based platform which validates the applicability, effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method for imaged-based control of a non-holonomic robot.

Photometric visual servoing for omnidirectional cameras

2D visual servoing consists in using data provided by a vision sensor for controlling the motions of a dynamic system. Most of visual servoing approaches has relied on the geometric features that have to be tracked and matched in the image acquired by the camera. Recent works have highlighted the interest of taking into account the photometric information of the entire image. This approach was ...

Paracatadioptric Geometry using Conformal Geometric Algebra

Computer vision provides non-contact measurements of the world, extending the robot ability to operate in circumstances and environments which can not be accurately controlled. The use of visual observations to control the motions of robots has been extensively studied, this approach is referred in literature as visual servoing. Conventional cameras suffer from a limited field of view. One effe...

Indoor navigation of a non-holonomic mobile robot using a visual memory

When navigating in an unknown environment for the first time, a natural behavior consists on memorizing some key views along the performed path, in order to use these references as checkpoints for a future navigation mission. The navigation framework for wheeled mobile robots presented in this paper is based on this assumption. During a human-guided learning step, the robot performs paths which...

Image-based Visual Servoing with Central Catadioptric Cameras

This paper presents an image-based visual servoing strategy for the autonomous navigation of a mobile holonomic robot from a current toward a desired pose, specified only through a current and a desired image acquired by the on-board central catadioptric camera. This kind of vision sensor combines lenses and mirrors to enlarge the field of view. The proposed visual servoing does not need any me...

Rotation Estimation of a Complete Omnidirectional Camera using Line Features

Rotation estimation with cameras is important for flying robot navigation. Usually, it is performed using a single camera by keeping track of some strong features such as corners or lines within the environment and observing their motion. However, with a normal camera, the field of view is quite limited and this can lead to an error because information is obtained from a small section of the sc...
